Putting the ‘hipster’ into heritage

One of Nambour’s emerging creative businesses is taking stories to the streets with their immersive sound walk app, Soundtrails.

Walk the streets of Nambour with headphones and the Soundtrails app on your smartphone, and be transported by the voices, memories and stories of Nambour’s past and present, along with sounds from some of the Coast’s top musicians.

“The Nambour Heritage Soundtrail is a deeply immersive experience of one of the Coast’s most interesting towns,” says Soundtrails creator Hamish Sewell, an internationally recognised radio producer and co-founder of audio storytelling company, The Story Project. Based in Nambour’s creative hub the Old Ambulance Station, Hamish and his team have now produced a dozen Soundtrails across Australia and are being are sought by Councils, universities, schools and tourism bodies to animate regional towns and historic sites.

“Soundtrails is an important opportunity to connect people with their places through telling stories which would otherwise be untold. It’s a powerful experience to unpack those stories”.

The Nambour Heritage Soundtrail is the first of its kind in Queensland. It was a successful collaboration between The Story Project and Sunshine Coast Council.

Explore Soundtrails or download the Soundtrails app from the App Store or Google Play.
