Digital Sunshine Coast
Digital Sunshine Coast is a collaborative project hosted by Regional Development Australia Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast Council, and Noosa Council in partnership with a large network of organisation’s and individuals.
The aim is to connect the Sunshine Coast community on the topic of digital innovation; and to connect high value industries and digital champions with each other – as well as local business and government leaders – to create further digital awareness, adoption, expertise, investment and culture on the Sunshine Coast.
Digital Action Plan
The Digital Action Plan was launched on 3 June 2015. It aims to bring the majority of digital elements together, to help provide a focus and to drive digital industry sector development and support all sectors of the regional economy that will be impacted by digital innovation.
The Digital Action Plan is currently being implemented by members of the Digital Sunshine Coast collective with some early and excellent results, including:
- The #SpeedItUp Campaign
- A Digital Sunshine Coast website containing broadband information, news, stories about digital champions and upcoming events
- Free CoderDojo workshops for children aged 7-17 to learn coding skills.
Background
The Draft Digital Action Plan was launched on 29 August 2014 for community consultation to further the digital capacity, infrastructure and culture on the Sunshine Coast.
This project is a result of the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Strategy 2013-2033, developed collectively by all the major industry, government and business associations across the Sunshine Coast. Its purpose is to provide a framework for digital participation and productivity that supports the objectives of the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Strategy. It is also designed to align with and leverage State and Federal Digital initiatives and programs, such as the Queensland Digital Economy Strategy and Action Plan.
Origins of this project can also be found in the Australian Smart Communities Association initiative (formerly known as Broadband Today Sunshine Coast) and the Digital Futures Project.
