Mentors wanted for CoderDojo program

Are you looking to inspire the next generation? The success of the CoderDojo Sunshine Coast program and teaching kids to code depends on volunteer mentors.

Three new CoderDojo workshops start on 18 October and run for six Saturdays, where young people aged 7-17 can learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs and games. Mentors are required for the Institute for Professional Learning (IPL) at Sippy Downs and Maroochydore Library locations.

You don’t need to be an expert in coding – all you need is a passion for helping kids learn. You don’t have to be at every session – whatever time you can provide.

Mentors are often asked to guide kids with ideas, point them to other kids who have the knowledge or call in help of a lead mentor with the tough questions. If you have an interest in coding, technology and programming that’s a bonus as you will help guide and inspire kids in languages such as scratch, html, python, JavaScript and more. Sign up here

An information session will be held on Wednesday 15 October at 4pm to introduce the CoderDojo program to new mentors and share ideas about the upcoming sessions. Contact Andrew Lang or phone 5459 4590 if you’re interested in attending the information session.
