Sunshine Coast Futures: Sustainable Villages conference – Friday November 2, 2012

Join Sunshine Coast business leaders and policy makers as they explore our region’s unique identities and why they are important at the Sunshine Coast Futures: Sustainable Villages conference. 

International and Australian experts will discuss how our interconnected urban centres across the Sunshine Coast can achieve a harmonious balance between identity, community, business and prosperity.

Jointly hosted by both the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) and the Sunshine Coast Council the conference will be held at the Innovation Centre in Sippy Downs on Friday 2nd of November 2012.

Local speakers such as Mayor Mark Jamieson, Professor Mike Hefferan (USC), Steve Cooper (Sunshine Coast Destinations), Max Standage (Regional Development Australia Sunshine Coast) and Darren Burnett (Editor in Chief, Sunshine Coast Daily) amongst others will investigate the challenges and opportunities impacting long term planning, economic development and infrastructure investments in the region.

Professor John Tomaney, Director of the Centre of Urban and Regional Development with Newcastle University (UK) will bring an international perspective based on numerous urban village related research projects, including over 100 books and articles he has written on the subject.

John will also be joined by other experts including Associate Professor Paul Collits from University of Southern Queensland, Dr Hugh Lavery from USC and John Byrne from Queensland University of Technology who will explore the three pillars of a sustainable community, including the economy, environment and our society.

The Sunshine Coast Futures Conference will feature a free public ‘town hall style meeting’ the night before on Thursday 1 November at 6.30pm at the Buderim War Memorial Hall, to address local community needs in partnership with the Buderim War Memorial Community Association.
