Emerging young artists invited to enter Sunshine Coast Art Prize New Media category

Entries are now open for the inaugural Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2014 New Media category, presented by Analogue Digital and the University of the Sunshine Coast with prizes valued at $12,500.

This exciting New Media category is open to any emerging artist aged 15-30 years, in the first five years of their practice, residing in the Sunshine Coast Local Government Area.

The New Media category closes on 9 June, with an application fee of $20 for any two dimensional new media artwork including photography, video, animation and projection with an emphasis on innovative digital technologies.

Ten finalists will be selected and their pieces exhibited at the Caloundra Regional Gallery in February 2015.

Digital animation workshop at Raw Sounds Festival

While young people are at the Raw Sounds Festival on Friday 4 April at Lake Kawana Community Centre they can check out the Sunshine Coast Art Prize New Media digital animation workshop and live showcase and street art workshop from 5pm to 8.30pm. They will use the latest technology and capture their own animated footage, then upload it to social media and can also take home their own street art creation.

 

Art Prize attracts the nation’s best artists

The Sunshine Coast Art Prize continues to attract work from some of the best contemporary and emerging artists our nation has to offer. The main prize is open to any Australian resident working in Australia in a two dimensional (2D) medium, with the winner receiving $15,000 and an artist residency at the wonderful Arley Farm Maleny.

The award culminates in an exhibition of the 40 finalists at Caloundra Regional Gallery from 27 August to 26 October. A selection of the finalists’ entries will also be available for purchase on the final day of the exhibition at the Sunshine Coast Art Prize Auction on 26 October at 2pm.
