New rural reporter position for ABC Sunshine Coast

ABC Rural has appointed its first rural reporter for 90.3 ABC Sunshine Coast to cover and report on stories as far north as Bauple, south to Narangba and Dayboro, and west to Murgon/Cherbourg.

Marty McCarthy will join a team across eight regional ABC Local Radio stations to produce and broadcast the Queensland Country Hour hosted by Craig Zonca.

“The value of agriculture in the region that ABC Sunshine Coast services is worth more than $350 million and many of the major agriculture and rural conferences are held in the region,” Queensland Country Hour Executive Producer Robin McConchie said.

“With close to 4000 agribusinesses including crops, dairy, beef, fishing, lifestyle agriculture and livestock products we consider it essential the local ABC reflects this audience.”

Marty, who starts work on 29 September, said he was excited to be given the opportunity to cover this dynamic agricultural and horticultural region and be able to report on the issues that might have been missed in the past.

“The ABC’s role is as important as ever and our local community at the Sunshine Coast will be better served by it with the addition of the Queensland Country Hour and an extra local staff member to ensure the stories get told,” Local Queensland Content Manager Jen Brennen said.
