Local residents on the Sunshine Coast are set to benefit as the Minister for Regional Australia, Simon Crean, today announced approval of $100 million funding for community infrastructure.

On 18 June 2010, the Prime Minister announced that additional funding of $100 million for the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP) would be made available in 2010-11.
This funding will assist councils to build and modernise community facilities, including town halls, libraries, community centres, sports grounds and environmental infrastructure and is aimed at strengthening our communities during the economic recovery by supporting local jobs and provide long-term benefits to communities by renewing and upgrading local infrastructure.
The application period for Round Three RLCIP $100 million opened on Monday 5 July 2010 and will close at 5pm AEST Friday 29 October 2010.
How does Round 3 $100 million for the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program work?
The $100 million injection into the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program will be delivered as an allocation to all 566 of Australia’s councils (565 councils plus the ACT).
Councils should complete and properly acquit their current projects under the Round One $250 million allocated component of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, and be performing to the Department’s satisfaction under other RLCIP rounds, as appropriate, to maximise their opportunity for funding under RLCIP Round Three.
The Australian Government announced that allocations will be consistent with the funding model used for Round Two:
- All Councils will receive a base grant of $30,000.
- Councils classified as ‘urban fringe’ or ‘urban regional’ according to the Australian Classification of Local Governments Code and who have at least 30,000 residents will receive an additional growth component of $150,000.
- All Councils with at least 5,000 residents will share in the distribution of the remaining funds in proportion to their 2009-10 general purpose Financial Assistance Grant.
