Local information available at the touch of a button

Checking details about events, getting the latest update on road closures during a storm or simply reporting a pothole has become much easier with the touch of a button and the swipe of a screen.

Sunshine Coast Council’s new app has been designed to provide and receive information in a streamlined and user friendly way, using the full capabilities of mobile devices such as cameras, location services, Bluetooth and notifications.

Economic Development, New and Emerging Industries Portfolio Councillor Steve Robinson said the app would streamline communications, enabling council to serve residents more quickly and efficiently, while also providing useful information to visitors, such as the locations of wifi and patrolled beaches.

SCC APP home screenUsers can use the app to make a service request such as reporting graffiti, and are able to include photos with their requests, streamlining the eRequest process using location awareness. Users are also able to provide feedback on the app.

Information provided in the app includes the SmartCity Framework, the development information Site Report tool, information about upcoming events, nearby facilities such as playgrounds, dog parks and walking trails, and council contact details.

“One very useful feature, especially during storm season, is the disaster hub which provides real-time information, facilitating preparedness and intelligence gathering during disasters,” Cr Robinson said.

Development of the app will continue and further information and services may be included in future versions.

The free SCC app is available via the app store. It will soon be available for free on Android.
