Kawana Way Upgrade

Roundabouts on Kawana Way at the intersections with Jamaica Way, Kawana Island Boulevard, Premier Circuit and Metier Linkway will be upgraded as part of the access improvements. Works will be carried out from the week commencing 18 July 2016 and continue until early 2017. Work hours will generally be Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm, and Saturday between 7am and 2pm, weather and construction conditions permitting.

This project involves:

  • additional lanes on approaches to the roundabouts, allowing two lanes to circulate instead of the current single lane – this will increase the amount of traffic that can get through the roundabouts;
    · off-road cycle lanes beside the four roundabouts to improve safety;
    · improved lighting;
    · dual lanes in both directions along Kawana Way between Premier Circuit and Metier Linkway.

The Kawana Island Boulevard roundabout will be fitted with traffic monitoring cameras and amber and red signals that can be used to control traffic flow if demand requires.

Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports and Minister for Energy, Biofuels and Water Supply The Honourable Mark Bailey announced this week that additional lanes will also be installed along Caloundra-Mooloolaba Road and Kawana Way, in the vicinity of Woodlands Boulevard. Design is continuing for these upgrades.
