A $500,000 federal grant towards the Nambour Heritage Tramway project, announced by Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien and Federal Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg, has put Nambour’s rebirth back on track.

Regional Development Australia (RDA) Sunshine Coast is thrilled that this project has received funding, which means the Heritage Tramway project could be under construction within the next four months. RDA CEO Darrell Edwards said the project is a much needed step in revitalising Nambour.

“RDA was excited to support this project as one of our core roles is to support the growth and development of regional communities across the Sunshine Coast, by connecting organisations to take advantage of government programs, policies and initiatives,” said Mr Edwards.

RDA Sunshine Coast is part of a national network of 55 committees made up of local leaders who work with all levels of government, business and community groups to support the development of their regions.

The Sunshine Coast Council is set to contribute $1.5 million to the project and locals raised more than $120,000 through the Tramfest events to help bring the project to life.

Roughly a kilometre in length, the first stage will link the Coles shopping centre with Aldi, while plans for the second stage will see the tramway continued to the Nambour Showgrounds.
