Sunshine Coast University Hospital Business Industry and Development Opportunities taskforce (SCUH BIDO)

The Queensland Government has announced funding for the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. The new Sunshine Coast University Hospital estimated at $1.97b will open in 2016 with 450 inpatient beds increasing to 738 by 2021.  This is likely to be the single largest construction project in the Sunshine coast’s history and offers numerous opportunities to reverse current trends in the construction industry and unemployment more generally.

Business opportunities are already emerging with the early development of a private hospital which is planned to open in 2013. A contract to develop the new private hospital at Kawana has been locked in with Ramsay Health Care (www.ramsayhealth.com.au), the largest private hospital operator in Australia. Work will begin in October by construction company, John Holland Group (www.johnholland.com.au)

The Sunshine Coast University Hospital development will include a Skills, Academic and Research Centre (SARC). Queensland Health will work with two universities (University of the Sunshine Coast and University of Queensland) and training providers to provide education, skills training and research facilities focusing on both existing Queensland Health staff and the future health workforce. This proposed investment to be worth approx. $60m.
